Singers

For over 20 years P&P Musicals has been presenting some of the most popular concerts seen in the South of England. What had begun as a traditional form of concert, consisting mostly of static chorus numbers and solos evolved, with the introduction of dancing and costumes, into musical spectaculars in their own right. It became apparent that there were members, or potential members who wanted to sing P&P’s kind of music but either could not, or no longer wished to, dance. So the decision was taken to form, in 1998, ‘The Choir’ (later to renamed ‘Singers’). From these small beginnings and a decade later, the Singers are established as one of the best choirs on the South Coast. This is in no small measure to the dedication and faith of Jean Chambers, the choir’s Music Director, who has been with the choir since its inception. Singers prides itself in singing an eclectic range of music from ‘pop’ and show tunes through to the classics. Each year the Singers presents its annual concert (presently at the Layard Theatre at Canford School) and in between times, enters festivals and presents an annual Christmas Concert at St Aldhelm’s church in Westbourne, the latter is rapidly becoming an institution in its own right.

“The Merry Widow”

Saturday 19^th May at 7:30pm at Lighthouse, Poole

The multi-award winning Poole & Parkstone Productions combine forces with the Orchestra of the Bournemouth Philharmonic Society for a concert version of Lehar’s wonderful operetta, The Merry Widow.

Set in Paris in 1900, this much-loved musical tells the story of the efforts of many men, to win the heart of Anna, the widow of a rich Pontevedrian Banker. With so many well-loved classics such as Vilia, and The Merry Widow Waltz, the show has enchanted audiences around the world for many years.

The Bournemouth Philharmonic Society was founded by Sam Newgarth in 1976 and has since gone from strength to strength having raised thousands of pounds for charities and good causes. Sam was rewarded in the 1997 New Year Honours by being made M.B.E. for services to music and to charity.

P&P Productions have been performing in and around Poole for over 90 years. Recently the winners of the NODA Best Musical Award for their production of Jesus Christ Superstar, performed at Lighthouse last year, P&P are delighted to join with the BPO for what promises to be a wonderful evening with over 100 performers taking part.
