Poole and Parkstone Productions

THEY sang We Are The Champions in this concert celebrating 90 years of P&P, and it couldn’t have been more apt.

When it comes to song and dance spectaculars there is no-one to beat this company, as there is no single aspect that doesn’t come under the microscope of the production team – this year John Stringer (MD), Sarah Cooper (director) and Jean Chambers (MD of ‘The Singers’). The staging, costumes and performance really were as good as it gets and everyone involved deserves to be showered with every superlative in the dictionary.

Despite there being over 70 people on stage at some points, there was never a moment when the effect was marred by any mis-timed movements or notes, late entrances or slow exits – in fact P&P might easily stand for Perfection and Polish.

The programme ranged from early shows such as The Mikado, The Pirates of Penzance, The Merry Widow, Showboat and Guys and Dolls through to those the company could well perform in the future, like We Will Rock You, Footloose, Spring Awakening and Hairspray, not forgetting their 2010 show, Anything Goes. It was all wonderful, and there were times when I almost cried at the sheer joy of such a fantastic show.

And what a wonderful idea to have a back-lit projection with a potted history of the society, done in such a humorous yet informative way.
